How do I make a big poster with an ordinary A4 printer?

Upload your picture, choose how many A4 sheets wide you want the poster to be, and download the PDF. Print it at 100% scale, trim the marked overlap strips, and tape the sheets together in the numbered order.

Is my picture uploaded to a server?

No. The picture is cut into sheets and turned into a PDF inside your own browser. It is never sent to us, so there is nothing stored and nothing to delete.

How many A4 sheets do I need for my poster?

It depends on the size you want. Three sheets wide and three tall makes a poster of about 61 × 88 cm, and four by four makes about 82 × 116 cm. The tool shows the exact sheet count and poster size as you change the settings.

What overlap should I use?

Use 8 mm, the default. Home printers cannot print right to the paper edge, so the overlap makes sure no part of the picture is lost. You trim the strip on the left and top of each sheet and tape the sheets edge to edge.

What picture quality do I need?

Aim for at least 100 pixels per inch of the finished poster. The tool shows a warning when your picture is too small for the size you picked. Posters are normally viewed from a distance, so 100 pixels per inch is usually enough.

Can I use US Letter or A3 paper instead of A4?

Yes. Choose Letter or A3 in the paper setting. Sheets can also be portrait or landscape.

Is A4 Poster Maker free?

Yes. It is free with no watermark, no sign-up and no ads. It is supported by voluntary donations from people who find it useful.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes, on current phones and tablets. Very large posters use a lot of memory, so on a phone choose the Draft or Good print quality for posters over about 30 sheets.

How do I put the printed sheets together?

Print at 100% or Actual size, not Fit to page. Cut the strip off the left and top of each sheet along the tick marks. Start with sheet 1 at the top left and tape the sheets together from the back, row by row.
